"Housewife" with a "vocation to be a mother"? Player makes controversial speech
Kansas City Chiefs player said that women's lives only "truly begin" when they become mothers and that while they can have successful careers, "one of the most important titles of all" is "homemaker."

"I believe you women have been told the most diabolical lie that you have ever been told. Some of you may have successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the vast majority of you are more excited about being a wife and bringing children into this world", Butker said in a commencement address at Benedictine College, a private liberal arts institution in Atchison, Kansas.
The athlete added that his wife, Isabelle, "would be the first to tell you that her life truly began when she began living out her vocation as a wife and mother."
"I stand before you today as a man who is able to be the man that I am because I have a woman who is living out her vocation," he said.
"I am so blessed with the many talents that God has given me, but I cannot overstate that all of my success is possible because a girl I met in high school band converted to the faith, became my wife, and embraced one of the most important titles of all. Homemaker", the 28-year-old added.
The National Football League (NFL) has since addressed Butker's remarks, with its vice president of diversity and inclusion, Jonathan Beane, saying that "Harrison Butker delivered a personal speech."
"His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is firm in our commitment to inclusion, which makes our league stronger," he said.
