The heads of state of Venezuela, India, and Iraq also sent condolences to Tehran for Sunday's accident.

"Pakistan will observe a day of mourning and the flag will be at half-mast" in "solidarity with Iran," a brotherly country, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

"The Iranian people will overcome this tragedy with their usual courage," said Sharif, who received Raisi with state honors in late April in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said on the social network X that he was "shocked by the harsh news" of Raisi's death, whom he described as "an exemplary person, an extraordinary leader of the world (...) and a defender of the sovereignty of his people".

Maduro sent his condolences to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to whom he wished "divine consolation for such sensitive losses".

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sadness over Raisi's "tragic death" and added that the Iranian President's contribution to strengthening the bilateral relations of the two countries will always be remembered.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al Sudani also said he received "with great sadness and regret" the confirmation of the accident and expressed solidarity with both Khamenei and the Iranian people after "this painful tragedy".

The helicopter carrying Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian was found today on a mountain in northwestern Iran, with no survivors, authorities confirmed.

The aircraft crashed in the Kalibar and Warzghan area, in the East Azerbaijan province, in the northwest of the country.

The accident occurred on Sunday, when the entourage was returning from the border with Azerbaijan, where Raisi inaugurated a dam with his Azeri counterpart, Ilham Aliyev.

The Iranian government assured that the disaster will not cause "any disruption in the administration" of the country.

"The President of the Iranian people, hardworking and tireless, (...) sacrificed his life for the nation," said the Tehran executive, in a statement after the first meeting since the accident.

"We assure our loyal, grateful and beloved nation that, with God's help and the support of the people, there will not be the slightest disruption in the administration of the country," added the Iranian government.

The government did not provide details on the succession plans, but today's meeting was already chaired by Raisi's possible replacement, current First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber.

The government will also hold an "emergency meeting" today, said the official Iranian news agency Irna, without revealing details about the meeting's agenda.
