Russia, Syria, Turkey ‘deeply saddened’ by Raisi’s death
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday offered condolences to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian over the helicopter crash.

"President Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian were true and reliable friends," Lavrov said in a statement.
Moscow's top diplomat added that Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian were "true patriots" who "firmly defended the interests" of Iran.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad also offered his condolences to Iran after news broke of President Ebrahim Raisi's death, showing "solidarity" with the government in Tehran that has backed Damascus since the start of the Syrian civil war.
"Syria stands in solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran," President Assad said in a message to Iranian leaders.
"We worked with the late president to ensure that strategic relations between Syria and Iran would always remain prosperous," the Syrian head of state added.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidana said that Turkey "shares the pain of the friendly and brotherly people of Iran".
"Unfortunately, we were deeply saddened when we received the news from Iran," Fidan told a press conference in Ankara.
Iranian rescue teams on Monday recovered the bodies of President Ebrahim Raisi and the eight other people aboard a helicopter that crashed in northwestern Iran on Sunday, the Red Crescent said.
The helicopter carrying Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian came down in the Kalibar area.
The crash happened on Sunday as the delegation was returning from the border area with Azerbaijan, where Raisi had inaugurated a dam with his Azeri counterpart, Ilham Aliyev.
