Khamenei's decision was announced hours after Iranian rescue teams recovered the bodies of President Ebrahim Raisi and eight others who were on board a helicopter that crashed on Sunday in northwestern Iran.

The helicopter, which was also carrying Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, went down in the Kalibar area.

The crash happened as the group was returning from the border area with Azerbaijan, where Raisi had inaugurated a dam with his Azeri counterpart, Ilham Aliyev.
