The 72-year-old man who since Sunday night had been barricaded inside his home in Huétor Tájar, Granada, Spain, with his two grandchildren aged 10 and 12, who he would end up killing, did so on the day that marked two months since the death of his wife and the children's mother.
According to Telecinco, the accident may have been the origin of the tragic outcome that took place this weekend. On March 19, the man who killed his grandchildren was driving a car with his wife, daughter and the two grandchildren.
Suddenly, the car violently crashed into a wall, killing his wife, the children's grandmother.
The other occupants of the vehicle were taken to different hospitals, depending on their state of health. The man and the grandchildren survived, but his daughter died shortly afterwards.
At the time, it was assumed that the cause of the accident had been a fainting spell by the man while driving. However, the accident will be investigated again.
The Guardia Civil and the local police are jointly investigating the circumstances of what happened and confirming the causes of the incident.

The Guardia Civil and the local police were immediately mobilized to the scene, the street was cordoned off and negotiations were started with the suspect.
Sources close to the investigation confirmed to the Spanish news agency that the man killed the minors after an argument with his son-in-law, adding that one of the children died by asphyxiation and the other by gunshot wound.
The grandfather also took his own life after shooting himself with the weapon, specifically a 12-gauge shotgun.
