Ali Bagheri has been appointed as the "head of the government's foreign relations committee," government spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi announced today.

The decision to appoint Ali Bagheri came less than an hour after Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei appointed Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as acting head of state.

Khamenei also declared five days of mourning for the death of Ebrahim Raisi.

Iranian rescue teams recovered the bodies of Ebrahim Raisi and the eight other passengers who were on board the helicopter that crashed in northwestern Iran on Sunday, the Red Crescent aid organization announced today.

The helicopter, which was also carrying Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, crashed in the Kalibar and Warzghan area of East Azerbaijan province, in the northwest of the country.

Hours earlier, the Iranian government confirmed the death of Raisi, adding that the disaster would not cause "any disruption in the administration" of the country.
