"The war in Gaza has taken and continues to take the lives of thousands of people, which requires the union of efforts at an international level," said the Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, during a security forum in Doha.
Abdulrahman is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and one of the main mediators between Israel and the Palestinian extremist group Hamas, at war for more than seven months. "History has shown that any conflict brings with it additional problems, such as refugees, illegal immigration and extremism, which feed on despair and the lack of hope for a better future," said Abdulrahman, quoted by the Spanish agency EFE. Abdulrahman also warned of the impact of "Israel's war in the occupied Palestinian territories, namely in Gaza," on supply chains and the global economy. "Any catastrophe has repercussions on global supply chains, as happened in the case of the war between Russia and Ukraine and now we are witnessing this in the southern Red Sea," he said. During the two days of the forum in Doha, officials and experts from various countries will hold "in-depth discussions on a range of global security issues," according to the Qatari press. The Arab country has warned that the conflict in Gaza "is spreading throughout the region" and has once again insisted on the need for joint action to stop it. In addition to security solutions, Qatar advocated "moral solutions that allow the same principles to be applied to everyone without discrimination." The ongoing war was triggered by an unprecedented attack by Hamas in southern Israel on October 7, which caused about 1,200 deaths and two hundred hostages, according to Israeli authorities. In response, Israel launched a military offensive in the Gaza Strip that resulted in more than 35,400 deaths, according to data from the Hamas Ministry of Health.
