After the announcement of the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who were traveling with six other people in a helicopter that crashed in northwestern Iran on Sunday, several people went to the Iranian Embassy in Moscow, Russia, to express their condolences.

Amidst red and white roses, the community was seen holding posters paying tribute to Raisi, who Russian President Vladimir Putin considered to be a “remarkable politician” and “a true friend of Russia”

“Please accept my deepest condolences over the great tragedy that has befallen the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Putin said in a message quoted by Reuters.

In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov paid tribute to the memory of the Iranian president and the foreign minister, who he said were “true and trusted friends”.

It should be noted that Iranian rescue teams recovered the remains of Ebrahim Raisi and the other eight passengers who were on the helicopter that crashed on Sunday in northwestern Iran on Monday, according to the Red Crescent.

The accident occurred when the delegation was returning from the border area with Azerbaijan, where Raisi inaugurated a dam in which his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, participated.
