The bodies of the victims of the Iranian helicopter crash on Sunday will be transferred from Tabriz to the north-eastern Iranian city of Mashhad on Tuesday. The crash killed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, as well as seven others.

A large public ceremony is scheduled to be held in Tabriz at 4pm local time (1.30pm GMT) on Monday, according to Iranian state media, cited by CNN.

Then at 9am local time (6.30am GMT) on Tuesday, a procession will accompany the victims' bodies from Tabriz's Martyrs' Square to the city's airport, before they are flown to Mashhad, where Raisi was born.

Following news of the Iranian president's death, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei appointed First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as caretaker president and declared five days of mourning.

Earlier, the Iranian government confirmed Raisi's death, but said the disaster would not cause "any disruption to the administration" of Iran.

More than 2,000 emergency workers and volunteers were involved in the search and rescue operation for the crashed helicopter, and recovered the remains of all nine victims on Monday morning, according to the Red Crescent.

The aircraft came down in the Kalibar area as the delegation was returning from the border area with Azerbaijan, where Raisi had inaugurated a dam with his Azeri counterpart, Ilham Aliyev.
