"We currently have nine detained and charged suspects who were directly involved on behalf of the Russian services in acts of sabotage in Poland," Tusk said in an interview with the private television station TVN24.
"These are Ukrainian, Belarusian and Polish citizens," the head of government indicated, adding that sometimes these people were recruited from within criminal groups. The suspects are notably accused of "beatings, arson and attempted arson," he explained. According to Tusk, sabotage by the Russian services currently extends not only to Poland, but also to Lithuania, Latvia and possibly Sweden. An international investigation is underway, he explained. Among the examples cited, he mentioned an attempt to set fire to a paint factory in Wroclaw, in western Poland, or the fire in a center of the multinational Ikea in Lithuania. Tusk also promised more public information on sabotage actions in Poland in the coming days. In mid-May, Tusk announced the reinforcement of the Polish intelligence services following Moscow's activities aimed at destabilizing the situation in Poland, dedicating an envelope of 100 million zlotys (23.5 million euros) for the services of civil and military counterintelligence. He then also indicated that several acts of sabotage had been thwarted, "thanks to the vigilance" of the Polish services and their allies. In recent weeks, Warsaw has revealed the arrest of a man suspected of helping the Russian intelligence services prepare a possible attack on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as the Belarusian sponsor of the attack on Leonid Volkov, a close friend of the late Russian opponent, Alexei Navalny, in March, in Vilnius, and two Poles responsible for the aggression. Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Warsaw has been an unwavering supporter of Kiev and the main transit country for Western weapons delivered to it.
