Trump's former right-hand man was questioned for a third day on Monday by the ex-president's lawyer Todd Blanche, as well as again by prosecutors. Cohen admitted under questioning from the defense attorney that he felt underpaid for his work, saying in testimony that could damage his credibility that "I was pissed off about the reduction in my bonus, so I felt like it was almost like a self-help." Cohen testified last week that Trump directed him to pay $130,000 to silence porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign over her claims of a 2006 affair with Trump. Cohen described how Trump later reimbursed him for the hush money. Blanche tried repeatedly to trip up Cohen, challenging his version of events and seeking to muddy the timeline of the hush-money payments, the Efe news agency reported. To that end, the lawyer repeatedly questioned Cohen about the dates and times of key calls and payments to the porn actress. Trump's former fixer also described how, with the Republican's permission, he made a payment to RedFinch, a company hired to rig an online poll of business leaders of the century so that Trump would appear in the top 10. The Trump Organization paid the firm $50,000, but Cohen said he paid only $20,000 -- again in cash "in a brown paper bag" -- and pocketed the rest, he initially told the defense. Asked about his motive for doing so later by the prosecution, he said in testimony: "I was pissed off about the reduction in my bonus, so I felt like it was almost like a self-help." Trump is on trial for allegedly falsifying business records to conceal hush-money payments made before the 2016 presidential campaign.
