Over 5,000 arrested for drug trafficking since January in Venezuela
Venezuelan authorities announced that more than 5,000 people have been arrested in the country since January for crimes related to drug and psychotropic substance trafficking.

The head of the Venezuelan National Anti-Drug Superintendence (Sunad) said that almost 22 tons of drugs have been seized in 4,026 proceedings to date. "There are 5,030 people arrested in relation to these crimes," he added.
Richard López Vargas stressed on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that "it is important to highlight the great work carried out by the Bolivarian National Police [PNB, military police] in the fight against micro-trafficking."
In 2023, 15,250 people were arrested by the Venezuelan authorities on suspicion of participating in activities related to drug trafficking, in 11,832 police procedures, according to data from Sunad.
