Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, announced this Tuesday that Spain will withdraw its representation in Argentina, after the controversial statements made by the Argentine president, Javier Milei, during the convention that brought together several figures from the conservative right in Madrid, including André Ventura, from Chega.
The announcement comes after Javier Milei reiterated, this Tuesday, that he will not apologize to the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, for calling him a "coward" and his wife, Begoña Gómez, "corrupt".
After announcing that "there will be no Spanish ambassador in Buenos Aires", after a meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Spanish government explained that the "activity of the embassy will continue at the level of the chargé d'affaires".
"When the diplomatic crisis is over, Spain will have to appoint a new ambassador", said Jose Manuel Albares, adding that "Spanish institutions do not do foreign policy with tweets or participate in any spectacle".
Despite the diplomatic crisis, the President of Argentina intends to return to Spain on June 21. Regarding this trip, Jose Manuel Albares said that the Government will analyze "in detail what type of visit Javier Milei intends to make", recalling that "on his first visit, the Spanish State made every effort to receive him with the hospitality and dignity that the position he represents deserves".
