"There is no legal, security or moral argument that prevents our partners from shooting down Russian missiles over the territory of Ukraine from their territory," Kuleba said at a press conference in Kyiv with his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock. At the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022, Ukraine had already asked the West for help to shoot down Russian missiles over its territory, but Kyiv's allies considered that the risk of escalating the conflict was too great. Kuleba dismissed this argument today, arguing that shooting down missiles does not endanger Russia or Russian soldiers. They are "pieces of metal that carry death from Russia to Ukraine," he argued. "If you don't want to do that, provide us with all the necessary means. We will deploy them on the territory of Ukraine and we ourselves will intercept these missiles," he concluded. Annalena Baerbock also insisted on the need to deliver more means of anti-aircraft defense to Ukraine as quickly as possible. "Every hesitation and delay in supporting Ukraine costs innocent lives. And every hesitation in supporting Ukraine also puts our own security at risk," she said. According to the German minister, Russian President Vladimir Putin "knows no limits" and has embarked on a campaign of destruction, citing the example of the relentlessly bombed power grid. "The best protection against Russian missile terror is to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses. Therefore, this is a top priority for us today," she said. This is Baerbock's eighth visit to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022. The trip aims to assure Ukrainian interlocutors of the support of Germany and the European Union (EU), even taking into account the worsening situation on the front line, according to the German Foreign Ministry. "Our support is based on the deep conviction that Ukraine will win this war," Baerbock said upon arriving in Kyiv, quoted by the French agency AFP. Ukraine has been insistently asking the West for more air defense systems to protect Kharkiv, a border region with Russia that is regularly bombed, and its vital infrastructure. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Russian attack launched on May 10 in Kharkiv could be the first wave of a larger offensive.
