A passenger is causing a stir on social media after he decided to break the wheels off his suitcase to avoid paying a €70 fee before boarding a Ryanair flight.

A video of the moment was posted on X (formerly Twitter) and shows the man, who is Spanish, removing the wheels from his suitcase, which Ryanair wanted to put in the hold of the plane because it exceeded the size limit for cabin baggage.

Without wheels, however, it fitted perfectly into the vertical sizer that the company usually places at the boarding gates, thus avoiding having to pay the fee in question.

The people present at the scene, who were watching with curiosity, then applauded as the young man received the 'green light' to board with his suitcase. The airline staff themselves were visibly surprised by the solution found.

On X, where the post has garnered more than 3.6 million views, it wasn't long before several users also praised the young man's creativity. "We Spaniards would have to be studied in great detail," joked one user, while another asked: "How much does a new [suitcase] cost? Is it worth it?".
