Bruun, who made his fortune in the butter industry, died in 1923 and left clear instructions in his will that his coin collection should be sealed for 100 years before it could be sold.
The catalogue, Sky News reports, features 20,000 items which will now be auctioned off by New York-based Stack's Bowers over the coming years. Some pieces are expected to fetch as little as £40 (€47), while others could go for more than £800,000 (€936,000).
Since Bruun's death, the collection has been kept at the former Danish royal residence Frederiksborg Castle before being moved to the National Bank of Denmark.
The tycoon made his fortune in the dairy industry, which allowed him to buy coins, medals and banknotes from Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Following the First World War, he insisted in his will that the collection should serve as "a reserve for the Royal Collection of Coins and Medals in Copenhagen".
