10-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Sucked Into Drain; Family Donates Organs
It happened in Tennessee, after the severe storms that hit the state.

A 10-year-old boy who was swept away in floodwaters in Tennessee two weeks ago has died, his father confirmed on social media. Asher Sullivan was playing in the street with other children as adults cleaned up debris in Christiana, southeast of Nashville, after heavy storms on May 8 when he got caught in a storm drain and was swept away, the Associated Press reported Tuesday. The boy eventually emerged in a drainage ditch and medics were able to restore his pulse. However, the boy’s brain was severely damaged from lack of oxygen. His father, James Sullivan, who is the Rutherford County school district’s superintendent, held out hope for several days, but the boy was pronounced dead Saturday. The family has decided to donate the boy’s organs. “Asher gave the gift of life through organ donation to four other people so he will continue to live on in them,” Sullivan wrote on social media Monday night, according to the AP. “I will live my life to honor his spirit and make sure he is never forgotten.” Read Also: Car crashes into wall.
