Serial killer who murdered dozens of women in critical condition after attack

A Canadian serial killer who killed more than 20 women has been hospitalized in critical condition after an assault in a Quebec prison,
The Associated Press reported Tuesday, citing authorities.
Robert Pickton, 74, a pig farmer, was convicted of six counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2007 with no chance of parole for 25 years after being charged with the slayings of 26 women, the news agency said.
The remains or DNA of 33 women were found on Pickton’s pig farm, and he confessed to an undercover officer that he had killed a total of 49 women.
Police began searching Pickton’s farm more than 22 years ago in what became a yearslong investigation into the disappearances of dozens of women.
The Vancouver Police Department was criticized for failing to take many of the cases seriously because many of the missing women were prostitutes or drug addicts.
Authorities said Pickton’s injuries were considered life-threatening and that a 51-year-old man was in custody in connection with the attack.
