"According to confirmed information, on the night of May 19, the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit the Russian missile ship 'Cyclone' of project 22800 in Sevastopol," the statement said.
The Telegram channel Krimski Veter, which covers censored events in Russia about occupied Crimea, reported on Sunday an attack on the "Cyclone" with two US ATACMS ballistic missiles, in which six Russian sailors were killed and 11 were injured.
Ukraine had already reported last weekend the destruction of another Russian warship, in this case a minesweeper, the "Kovrovets", which was also in the port of Sevastopol.
Russian authorities in Crimea denied the reports and said the attack caused no damage or casualties.
Since the start of the war in February 2022, and despite having practically no fleet of its own, Ukraine has managed to destroy numerous Russian warships.
According to Kyiv's estimates, Ukrainian missiles and 'drones' have managed to destroy about a third of the Russian Black Sea fleet.
Over the weekend, British military intelligence services estimated that Ukrainian attacks on Russian positions on the Crimean peninsula will eventually lead to the dispersal of the air force stationed there, which is already quite degraded.
