Zelensky 'hysterically' demanded support to bring 'Russia to its knees'
Russian minister spoke about peace summit for Ukraine, criticized Kyiv and the West

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday accused Ukrainian President Voldoymyr Zelensky of "hysterically" demanding that Western countries support Kyiv's proposed peace plan for Ukraine to put "Russia on its knees".
Lavrov's comments came after a meeting of foreign ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
"In late April, while discussing with foreign ambassadors in Kyiv the idea of a 'Swiss conference', Zelensky, according to some of the participants, spent most of the time improvising hectically and almost hysterically demanding support for his 'peace formula' as a means of forcing Russia to its knees," Lavrov told reporters, according to Russia's state-run TASS news agency.
The Russian diplomat also addressed the "persuasion" to participate in a peace summit for Ukraine, which is set to take place in Switzerland, and issued a warning, similar to one previously made by Dmitry Medvedev.
“Those who are now being persuaded, by hook or by crook, to come to Switzerland [for the Ukraine conference] to create an impression of broad participation, to take part in this 'family photo' so that the organizers can later talk at length about the broad support for the 'Zelensky formula', should understand what they are being drawn into," he said.
"They are being drawn into supporting an ultimatum, which would ultimately be presented to Russia. This is ridiculous," he added, arguing that such "games" have "nothing to do with diplomacy".
"Just like other foreign policy actions of Western partners, who have lost their diplomatic capabilities," he said.
The Swiss government has confirmed that it has invited 160 countries, excluding Russia, to participate in a peace summit for Ukraine in June at the request of the Ukrainian government and intended to legitimize President Volodymyr Zelensky's "peace formula".
