Pregnant with her fourth child, American Haley Hodge decided to look for inspiration for baby girl names in an unusual place: a cemetery dating back to 1792.

“I know some people might find it creepy, but my mom was a huge history buff and when we were kids she would take us on cemetery tours. You can learn so much about the culture of the past,” the 30-year-old told Today.

In fact, her sister’s name, Cooper, came straight from a headstone.

Hodge and her husband, Rivers, are already parents to Finley, 10, Crew, 3, and Banks, 16 months. The family trekked to Smithville Cemetery in Southport, North Carolina, and documented the experience in a TikTok video, which you can watch above.

The trip proved successful, with the mom-to-be considering the names Galloway and Salem. Vienna, Ella, Bunny, James, Julian, Winnie and Olympus also caught her eye.

While some commenters noted the superstitions surrounding visiting a graveyard while pregnant, others praised the outing as a creative and clever way to find a beautiful and often forgotten name from history.
