Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned on Wednesday that sending Western troops to Ukraine would lead to "a world war", saying that Hungarians are "fed up with the attempts to drag the whole of Europe and even the whole world" into the conflict, in a criticism of some European leaders.
"Some European politicians want to send soldiers to Ukraine, while other European politicians are fantasising about using nuclear weapons. In any case, that would mean a world war and those who are close to the armed conflict would have to pay the price," Szijjarto said at a press conference in Amman after talks with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi, according to the Russian state news agency TASS.
According to the diplomat, Hungarians "have had enough of these dangerous statements" about the conflict in Ukraine. "We are fed up with the attempts to drag the whole of Europe and even the whole world into the war. We are fed up with the talk about sending ground troops and using nuclear weapons in Ukraine," he said.
The Hungarian minister also said he hoped that in the European elections, voters would "send a message to those European politicians who are talking nonsense".
