The military added that Israeli intelligence services had warned Netanyahu before the October 7, 2023, attack by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Israeli soil, which left about 1,200 dead and two hundred hostages.
The Israeli military also said that the military intelligence unit sent four separate notifications to the head of government between March and July 2023, which "illustrated how Israel's enemies predicted the damage that could be caused to the State of Israel and the security forces in particular".
In some of the notifications sent by the secret services, General Amit Saar indicated that there were signs of deliberations about "letting Israel continue to weaken or taking the initiative and making the situation worse".
The army confirmed this information in response to a request submitted by the Hatzlacha organization, which defends transparency and the correct application of Israeli laws, reported the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
In November 2023, a month after the attack by the Palestinian extremist group, the newspaper reported that the Israeli Prime Minister had been warned that an eventual crisis over his domestic policy could lead to a "joint action by Iran, Hezbollah [Lebanese Shiite movement] and Hamas", perhaps even "simultaneously".
The controversial judicial reform project proposed by Netanyahu's executive, the most right-wing in Israel's history, triggered a large wave of demonstrations from January 2023, which gave rise to a protest movement that brought together hundreds of thousands of people weekly and was the largest in the country in decades.
