Two-thirds of Europeans are in favor of a common defense policy
More than half of European Union (EU) citizens support a common defense and security policy and 71% believe the bloc should boost production of military equipment, according to figures released today.

In a statement, the European Commission released a Eurobarometer that shows that three quarters of the citizens of the 27 (77%) "are in favor of a common defense and security policy among the EU countries".
The survey also shows that 71% of European citizens believe that the Union "should reinforce its capacity to produce military equipment".
According to the Eurobarometer, 34% believe that defense is a priority issue, a percentage that is higher than climate change (30%) in the list of concerns.
Regarding the Russian invasion, 87% of those surveyed considered it important to continue humanitarian aid for those affected by the war, while 83% are in favor of welcoming refugees from the war.
72% of those who responded to the survey are in favor of imposing economic sanctions against companies and individuals responsible for fueling Moscow's war machine.
The interviews for this survey were conducted between April 2 and May 9, with 26,423 citizens from the 27 EU countries.
