The Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza said today that "nine massacres against families" had taken place in the Gaza Strip, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the Israeli offensive to 35,800.
In addition, 210 people were injured, bringing the total number of wounded since the start of the war in the devastated Palestinian enclave to 80,200.
It is estimated that the bodies of about 10,000 missing people are still buried under the rubble.
A military statement said that Israeli troops advanced further into Rafah today and killed several suspected Hamas militants in "hand-to-hand" fighting, while the army maintained airstrikes over much of the enclave.
"The troops are operating based on intelligence about terrorist targets in the Brasil and Shabura neighborhoods, doing everything possible to avoid harming civilians and after the civilian population in the area was evacuated," the statement said.
Israel's military operation in Rafah, which began on the 6th of this month, is highly controversial because the city was initially home to more than 1.4 million displaced people, who were again forced to leave the area without any guarantees of safety elsewhere.
According to Doctors Without Borders (MSF), more than 800,000 Gazans have already reached the beaches of al-Mawasi, from where the Israeli army advised civilians to flee shortly before the start of the offensive.
Although the armed forces have identified it as a "safe zone", it is a coastal area where thousands of people were already living in temporary tents, without water or sanitation.
