"We have detailed, significant and even surprising plans, but I will not share them with our enemy [Hezbollah]. Everything is aimed at restoring security to the north so that its residents can return home safely," Netanyahu said, referring to the more than 60,000 people displaced from towns and cities bordering Lebanon.

The Israeli prime minister was speaking after meeting with the commanders of the army's Northern Division.

On the 19th of this month, the Israeli leader met the heads of local councils in the north, and pledged to work on a plan to rebuild the area hit by constant shelling, and to return the displaced residents who are currently living in hotels and apartments paid for by the Israeli government.

However, on Wednesday the Israeli government postponed a vote to approve the $3.5 billion (€3.235 billion) plan, which has been criticized by ministers who say it does not meet the needs on the ground.

"We are constantly acting on the northern front. So far, we have eliminated hundreds of Hezbollah operatives and we remain ready, even today," Netanyahu added.

Last weekend, Defense Minister Benny Gantz gave Netanyahu an ultimatum to approve a plan to allow the displaced residents, many of whom are still living in government-funded hotels and apartments, to return by September 1.

Gantz has said he will resign if this does not happen.
