Bark Air, a luxury airline for dogs (and their humans), has taken flight. The inaugural journey took place on Thursday, May 23, between New York City and Los Angeles, and was documented by the company on Instagram. "Currently at 30,000 ft. is a plane full of dogs," Bark Air proclaimed at the time, adding that on these flights, "the dogs are the top priority." Tickets were sold out, according to Bark's booking site , which says it launched the experience to make long-distance travel more comfortable for dogs who typically can't fit in front of a seat on a commercial airline. "Dogs are often banned from flying, forced into a carrier or endure the stress of flying in cargo," the company said when it announced the flights in April.

On Bark's flights, canine passengers get to socialize with each other and, like their humans, are given treats, noise-canceling headphones and a choice of beverages, among other perks.

For now, the service is only available between New York City and Los Angeles and New York City and London, but the company says it will be adding more routes "soon."

Bark Air uses chartered Gulfstream G5 jets for its trips, according to CBS News . Each ticket for a dog (of any size or breed) includes a pass for one human, with additional human passes available for purchase. However, no one under 18 is allowed on board.

A one-way ticket from New York City to Los Angeles in June costs $6,000. A one-way ticket from New York City to London costs $8,000.

Bark, a pet company founded in 2011, sells dog food and other products. The brand announced its new venture in April, much to the delight of many dog owners who love to travel.
