A 14-year-old boy was arrested in London, England, on Wednesday on suspicion of terrorism. The teenager was later released on bail until August while the case is investigated.
According to Sky News, the investigation by London’s Metropolitan Police found that the teenager had information that could be useful to someone committing or preparing an act of terrorism. A search of the suspect’s home address led to the arrest.
"This arrest demonstrates a continuing and worrying trend of young people being drawn into and involved in terrorist-related activity," said Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
Authorities said that about a fifth of those arrested for terrorism offences in 2023 so far have been under the age of 18. Police stressed the importance of "parents, friends and family being alert to the signs" to prevent young people from being drawn into extremism or terrorism.
