A building was evacuated on Thursday night in Santa Catarina, Brazil, after a landslide hit a nearby parking lot. Residents heard a loud noise and then realized that the ground had given way, opening up a large crater.

The collapse was caused by the rain, according to G1. Several images shared on social media show a car that fell into the hole.

About 12 families who live in the building were still unable to return home on Friday. However, there are no reports of injuries.

The Municipal Coordinator of Civil Defense of Chapecó, Valter Luciano Hüning, pointed out that there was a construction site next to the parking lot. The storm soaked the ground and caused the collapse of the wall, which was under construction.

"When the wall ruptured, the ground gave way and took the vehicle with it. It caused some damage to some cars," Hüning said.

The authorities also confirmed that the building's gas station was hit and that the residents had to be relocated, having spent the night in a local hotel.
