The mother of Aalim Makial Jibril, the five-year-old boy who died after falling from a 15th-floor flat in London, UK, had previously complained about a "dangerous window" in the property.
The incident happened on 16 May, when the boy's father found his body shortly before 6am. Emergency services arrived at the scene four minutes later, but the boy could not be saved.
The boy's mother had "complained to Newham council" about a window in the flat that she considered dangerous, on several occasions, The Independent reports.
"She sent five emails about how it opens and said it wasn't safe for her children, but no one did anything", the boy's aunt, Maryan Hadafow, said.
She said Aalim Makial Jibril had woken up before his parents and had fallen from a window in the flat, which was around 32 metres (105ft) above the ground.
Abi Gbagbo, chief executive of Newham council, said in a statement: "This has been a tragic and distressing day for all concerned, and we are united both in our grief and in our determination to ensure the family are fully supported. We are carrying out a full investigation to establish as full an understanding as possible of what happened and will fully support any other investigations".
The boy's school also issued a statement, saying Aalim was a "beautiful, happy and caring boy" who "enjoyed school" and "was popular with his friends". "He was much loved by his family," it added, saying it was a "terrible tragedy".
