A tourist has tipped the owners of Hotel Marcel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a $100 (around £92) tip specifically to 'spoil' the hotel's resident cat, Gucci.

The incident was shared by the hotel on its Instagram account and recounted to The Dodo, with owner Karin Dhadamus saying: "When guests check in, he's [Gucci] the first one to greet them."

"He's free to come and go as he pleases. Sometimes he'll go into guests' rooms, and if they want him to stay — and he wants to stay — he'll stay", she continued.

However, one woman in particular seemed to have captured Gucci's heart, with the cat "ending up sleeping with her the whole time she was here".

"When she left, she said she was going to be travelling down south for a few days and asked if she could leave her bags with us. When she came back to pick them up before heading to the airport, she said she had something for Gucci. She handed me a $100 bill, saying she was so happy that she got to spend the night with him", Dhadamus told The Dodo.

The tourist asked the hotel owner to buy the cat something "nice". "I was shocked," Dhadamus admitted, revealing that it's not the first time the cat has received a gift from a guest. The presents have never come close to the value of a $100 bill, however.

Karin's daughter, Nerjis, was told the story and thought her mother was "joking". "But then again, Gucci is a very special cat", she also told The Dodo.

The family took Gucci in off the streets six years ago and brought him to their hotel, where "most guests instantly fall in love with him", the owner admitted.
