A group of climbers have been left stranded on the summit of Mount Everest after part of the world’s highest peak collapsed. Two people are missing.

According to Sky News, the missing pair are a 40-year-old British man and a 23-year-old Nepali guide. Reports suggest a serac - a large block of ice - broke away and swept climbers down the mountainside.

Footage posted on social media shows crowds of people at an altitude of more than 8,800 metres.

International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations guide Vinayak Malla summited Everest on 21 May, but said reaching the summit “was different than my previous experiences”. He said a serac collapsed a few metres in front of him and “four climbers nearly died”.
