An off-duty Guardia Civil agent was driving on the Spanish AP-7 motorway towards Barcelona, Spain, when he found the attitude of a car in front of him suspicious and decided to follow it.

The vehicle, according to the Spanish newspaper ABC, was white and had marks on the front left. The description matched that of a car that had been stolen, the report of which the agent stationed in Valencia had consulted days before.

Therefore, he decided to follow it and, at the same time, contact colleagues to check the car's registration number. It was thus confirmed that the registration number did not match the vehicle in question.

The Guardia Civil agent then followed the car to a service station in Hospitalet de l'Infant, where he contacted the Mossos d'Esquadra to report the case and await the arrival of reinforcements.

The Catalan police confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen, so the three occupants were arrested for an alleged crime of vehicle theft that occurred between 3 and 4 May in front of the Nou Mestalla stadium in Valencia.

In the boot of the vehicle two other registration numbers were found, the numbers of which also did not match the car in question.

The arrests also resulted in another discovery: None of the occupants of the vehicle were legal residents in Spain, and an order was issued for two of them to be expelled from the country.

The case was handed over to the Reus Court of First Instance and Instruction Number 1.
