"Our fighters have now managed to take control of the combat in the border area where the Russian occupiers entered," Zelensky said on Friday night in his traditional evening address to the population.
Zelensky's statements were made after meeting with military, special services chiefs, and regional and municipal authorities in the northeastern region.
In the latest part of the war, the General Staff of Ukraine said that 13 clashes with Russian invaders took place in the Kharkiv sector the previous day, ten of which were repelled in the areas of Liptsi, Tykhi and Vovchansk.
In Liptsi, the commander of the 5th operational battalion of the "Spartan" brigade, Mykhailo Hologursky, noted that Ukrainian soldiers had stopped the Russian advance on the northern outskirts of the city, although Kremlin forces continued to fight without stopping.
"The enemy has been stopped, the situation has been stabilized. That is, there are no enemy advances at the moment. The enemy is making constant counterattacks, but all their attacks in the past two weeks have been repelled and their advances have not been recorded anywhere," said Hologursky, quoted by the UNIAN news agency.
In turn, according to the General Staff, the battle continues near the city of Staritsia, where Ukrainian troops are not only defending themselves, but also frequently carrying out counterattacks.
"The situation is under control. In addition, Ukrainian defenders are repelling the enemy from the first line of defense with assault operations and are succeeding in some areas," the General Staff assured.
