Kharkiv? "High time to lift restrictions on arms supplies to Ukraine"
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg today defended Ukrainian attacks on targets in Russian territory as long as they are military in nature, as part of defense operations against Russia on the front lines in the Kharkiv region (north).

In an interview with The Economist, Stoltenberg made a veiled reference to the United States, which has barred Kyiv from using its weapons to strike targets inside Russia, and argued that “perhaps it is time for some allies to consider lifting such restrictions on the use of weapons they provide to Ukraine.”
“Right now, with all the fighting going on in Kharkiv, so close to the border, it is very difficult for the Ukrainians to see that they are denied the ability to defend themselves by striking into Russia,” the secretary-general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) added.
Stoltenberg used the interview to downplay recent Russian advances in the region, some of the most significant battlefield gains Moscow’s forces have made since the start of the conflict.
“I think the Russians will continue to make some progress, but these are marginal gains that they are paying a very high price for,” he said.
Still, Stoltenberg acknowledged that Ukraine is “having a tough time” and called on NATO members to make good on their pledges of weapons.
“European allies have promised a million artillery rounds to Kyiv,” he said, “and so far we have not seen anything close to that being delivered.”
