"Due to the explosion of the main gas pipeline in one of this city's streets, a residential unit was destroyed, two people died and two others were injured," said Abdanan Governor Mohammed Rahmani, in statements to IRNA, Iran's official news agency.

According to the official, the injured are in serious condition, EFE reports.

The governor said that the explosion occurred "during the process of installing the fibre optic network in the city, due to the negligence and recklessness of the workers who were welding".

In February, explosions were recorded in two of the main gas pipelines that cross Iran.

The incident was then classified as an "act of sabotage and terrorism" by the head of operations of the National Gas Company, Saeed Aqli.

At the time, the authorities did not report any possible victims.
