In the past 24 hours, according to the Ukrainian version, 1,140 Russian soldiers were killed or injured, bringing the total to 500,080, data that is not possible to confirm independently.
The number is close to the total number of Russian soldiers currently fighting in Ukraine, estimated in early May by the Ukrainian military command and analysts at more than half a million. According to the Ukrainian army, 30,240 Russian soldiers were killed or injured in May alone, making it the deadliest month for Russian forces in Ukraine. A Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, in the northeast of the country, launched more than two weeks ago, probably explains the high numbers, according to military analysts. Russian losses began to increase after Ukraine went on the defensive in October, following the failure of the summer counteroffensive. According to Ukrainian authorities, since November, Russia has been losing between 26,000 and 30,000 soldiers per month, which is also not possible to confirm from an independent source. Both Russia and Ukraine have not regularly disclosed their own losses. However, last February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died in the two years of the Russian invasion (February 24, 2022), but did not indicate the number of wounded and missing.  According to Zelensky, about 180,000 Russian soldiers were killed in the same period. In addition to the loss of soldiers, Russia has suffered, according to the version of the Ukrainian General Staff, significant losses of military equipment. According to the source, 7,650 tanks, 14,786 armored combat vehicles, 12,929 artillery systems and 814 anti-aircraft defenses were lost in combat. "These losses would probably stop any other country other than the Russian Federation," said the then commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Valeri Zaluzhni, in November, insisting that Ukraine must continue to inflict losses on the Russian army until the invading country ends its aggression.
