"Minister Macamo leads the last debate of the Mozambican presidency in the Security Council, under the theme 'Maintenance of international peace and security: The role of women and youth', scheduled for May 28", reads a statement from the Government sent today to the press.
During the four days, Verónica Macamo will also have audiences with "high-level entities" of the United Nations (UN), the document adds.
The Mozambican official visits the USA accompanied by Pedro Comissário, permanent representative of Mozambique to the United Nations, and by José Morais, director of the department for international organizations and conferences at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
On the 1st, Mozambique assumed the monthly presidency of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, during which Africa is at the top of the priorities, with several meetings to address peace, security and development on the African continent.
As president of the Security Council during this month, Mozambique promoted a presidential statement that reiterates support for the objectives set out in the African Union's Agenda 2063, and encouraged global partnerships to accelerate its implementation, as well as supported the initiative on Silencing the Guns in Africa and the African Continental Free Trade Area.
