A four-year-old child is between life and death, after falling from the 16th floor of a building in Aubervilliers, on the outskirts of Paris, France, this Sunday.

According to AFP, which cites police sources, the incident occurred shortly after 9:00 am local time (10:00 am in mainland Portugal), in an apartment located in that building.

The child, autistic, locked himself in his room and then jumped out the window, falling from a height of 45 meters. He ended up falling on the roof of a store, being seriously injured.

The victim was taken to Necker Children's Hospital.

A police source confirmed that the child's life is at risk.
