An 11-year-old girl graduated and attended the ceremony Thursday in Irvine, California.
According to international publications, Athena Elling is not only the youngest to earn an Associate of Arts degree from the local community college, but she also broke her brother's record. The press explains that last year the Elling family attended the graduation ceremony of this student's older brother, Tycho Elling, a few days before he turned 12.

"I'm very excited because I got to beat my brother's record", said the child, adding that her brother doesn't see it as a problem, since he "is not very competitive".

The children's mother, Christina Chow, explained that she never forced the children to follow this path and that they simply love to learn. “She was pushing to sign up for more classes. She wants to do another associate’s degree. I think she wants to do everything, she has so much energy,” she explained. An associate degree is a two-year course, with a graduation level below a bachelor's degree. According to what she told KABC, ABC's partner, the second degree should be either in music or psychology. For the summer, the child has already enrolled in both history and music classes.

"I think there are probably at least 30 more classes I really want to take before I'm ready to commit to another major", she said.

The child was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, and she said she wanted to "be an actress or maybe a family law attorney." "Or an immunologist, because I have eczema," she said. But this family may not stop there, as there is a third daughter, who is still nine years old. "I beat my brother's record, and she'll probably beat mine", said Athena.
