Police in London are hunting for a Manchester United fan who was pictured wearing a club shirt with "Hamas 7" printed on the back.
The unidentified man was photographed walking near Oxford Circus tube station in central London on Friday afternoon.
The incident is being treated as a hate crime under UK terrorism laws for encouraging support for a terrorist organisation.
"On Friday, 24 May, police received a third party report of a male seen walking along Oxford Street, W1, wearing a football shirt with an offensive message," the Metropolitan Police said, adding that enquiries are underway to identify the suspect.

The image of the fan was taken by a Jewish passerby, who said he was "deeply offended" by the man's top, and suggested the number seven could be a reference to last year's October 7 attacks - in which Hamas took 250 hostages and more than 1,000 were killed in Israel.
"I followed him for about two minutes and took the pictures, I think he knew I was taking pictures of him but he didn't seem to mind," he said. "Even if it is his surname, he must know the association [with the Hamas group]."
"The shirt was a Manchester United shirt and it looked like it had been freshly printed," he added. "To have the name of a terrorist organisation on it is really quite shocking."
"I was deeply offended, especially as the number seven could be a reference to the October 7 attacks," the man who took the picture said.
According to MailOnline, Manchester United do not allow political slogans to be printed on shirts sold through official club channels.
Manchester United won the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon, beating Manchester City 2-1.
