Pyongyang’s warning comes hours before a summit between Japan, China and South Korea in Seoul.

In the notice, North Korea designated three maritime areas as potential danger zones for the fall of debris from the rocket needed to launch the device: two west of the Korean peninsula and one east of the Philippine island of Luzon, according to data received by the Japanese coast guard.

The three locations coincide with the zones demarcated by the North Korean regime for last year’s launches.

Authorities from the United States, Japan and South Korea held telephone contacts after the announcement and agreed to appeal to Pyongyang to cancel the plan, since it involves the use of ballistic technology, something prohibited by the sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council on the country.

North Korea has promised to launch three more spy satellites in 2024, after having put the first into orbit in November last year and two failed attempts earlier in the year.
