In a statement, the army indicated that a dozen soldiers were also injured and that other military vehicles were hit by projectiles fired by the terrorists.

According to the same source, the attack took place on Sunday, at 05:40 (06:40 in Lisbon), when a group of extremists from the "Katiba Macina" (known as the Macina Liberation Front) attacked a Malian army post in Mourdiah, in two vehicles.

The troops managed to repel the attack, according to the note, which adds that "a significant number of terrorists were neutralised", others were injured and the Malian military confiscated military equipment (11 PKM machine guns, 15 PM machine guns, four LRAC rocket launchers, nine motorcycles, among others).

Local sources told the EFE news agency that Malian soldiers killed 30 terrorists in the attack.

This country in the unstable Sahel region, ruled by a military junta since 2020, is the scene of continuous terrorist attacks perpetrated by the Islamic State and the local branch of Al-Qaeda, the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GAIM).
