"Outraged by the Israeli strikes that killed many displaced persons in Rafah. These operations must stop," said the French head of state, in a message published on his account on social network X.

Macron stressed that "there are no safe areas in Rafah for Palestinian civilians" and called for "full respect for international law" and "an immediate ceasefire".
The Israeli army announced on Sunday that it had launched attacks against a complex of the Hamas Islamist movement in Rafah, admitting to having injured civilians, but the presidency of the Palestinian Authority and the extremist group, in power in Gaza since 2007, accused Tel Aviv of deliberately attacking a centre for displaced persons.
"An aircraft hit a Hamas complex in Rafah, where important Hamas terrorists were operating," the Israeli army said in a statement, adding that it "has knowledge of information according to which several civilians in the area were injured".
However, the Palestinian presidency accused Israel of having deliberately attacked a centre for displaced persons near Rafah, with Hamas claiming, in turn, that the attack killed at least 50 people.
"This atrocious massacre perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces is a challenge to all international resolutions on legitimacy," wrote the leadership of the Palestinian Authority in a statement.
Also in a press release, Hamas called for a general mobilisation of Palestinians against the Israeli army.
"In light of the horrific Zionist massacre committed (...) by the criminal occupation army against the tents of displaced persons, we call on the masses of our people in the West Bank, in Jerusalem, in the occupied territories and abroad to rise up and march with anger," wrote the extremist Palestinian movement in a statement.
Israel and Hamas have been at war since an attack by the Palestinian group on Israeli soil on 7 October 2023 caused around 1,200 deaths and two hundred hostages, according to the authorities in Tel Aviv.
The Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, launched after the attack, caused more than 36,000 deaths, according to Hamas, a group classified as a "terrorist organisation" by Israel, the European Union (EU) and the United States.
