Newborn baby hit by stray bullet four hours after birth

A newborn baby was grazed in the head by a stray bullet just four hours after she was born in Recife, Brazil, on Sunday.
The incident happened at the Barão de Lucena Hospital. The baby was in the pediatric ward, located on the fifth floor of the hospital. The baby was hit around 7 pm and was born at 2:40 pm.
Speaking to TV Globo, the girl's father said that he and his wife heard a noise, but only noticed something strange when the baby's crying got louder.
"She was sleeping, and suddenly we heard that muffled bang. And I heard my daughter crying very loudly, I ran to get her and when I looked, next to her little head was the bullet," he said.
The couple took the baby out of the crib and noticed the wound on her head.
"We were very desperate, not knowing what to do. It could have killed my daughter. She had just been born and could have died in the hospital itself," added the man.
The Military Police cordoned off the area and believe that the shot was fired in the street. The case is being investigated.
The newborn was seen by a neonatologist at the hospital. She underwent tests and is doing well.
