Dozens ran (and fell) down a hill to catch a cheese

The competitors were not intimidated by the slope of the terrain and gave 100% to get the cheese weighing more than three kilograms. Whoever gets it, keeps it.

Dozens of people ran, slipped and tumbled down the steep Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire, England, on Monday. The goal? To catch a wheel of Double Gloucester cheese.

The annual cheese-rolling event has become a tradition, with hundreds of people turning out to watch competitors race down the grassy hill in pursuit of the 7-pound (3-kilogram) cheese, which is theirs to keep if they can catch it, Sky News reported.

The event has raised safety concerns in the past, but emergency services were not present at this year's event.

This year's hill, located in the village of Brockworth, is about 200 yards (meters) long and was especially muddy and slippery after recent rains.

Three races for men and one for women were held between noon and 1:30 p.m. Local resident Josh Shepherd won one of the men's races, and two international competitors — one from Germany and one from Australia — won the others. Abby Lampe of North Carolina won the women's race.

Also on hand from the United States was YouTuber IShowSpeed, who required medical attention after sustaining injuries during his run.

The event dates back at least two centuries, with the first written record of the competition dating to 1826, though it is believed to have been a tradition even earlier than that.
