Singapore Airlines chief executive Goh Choon Phong has thanked the airline's staff for their "agility, dedication and team spirit" following the emergency landing of a London to Singapore flight due to severe turbulence.
The incident, which happened on Tuesday, killed a 73-year-old British man and injured dozens more, some of whom remain in hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, where the emergency landing was made. "The last five days have been extremely challenging for all of us at Singapore Airlines," Mr Goh wrote in a message to staff, seen by the BBC. "Our agility, dedication and team spirit have been evident throughout this period," Mr Goh's message said. "On behalf of the board of directors and the entire management team, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart." A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER was forced to make an emergency landing in the Thai capital after hitting severe turbulence mid-air. The airline said there were 211 passengers and 18 crew on board. A 73-year-old British man died on board the flight after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest. More than 100 people were treated in hospital in Bangkok, while passengers and crew not seriously injured in the incident were flown back to Singapore the following day.
