According to the statement, Likhachev assured Grossi of the Russian side's readiness "to continue active work to ensure the safe operation" of the nuclear power plant.
Grossi, in turn, outlined his vision of the situation and "touched upon other aspects of cooperation with Russia," the statement added, stressing that the parties agreed to continue their contacts.
Over the past two years, Grossi has visited Russia on several occasions to discuss the safety of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, which has been controlled by Russian troops since the start of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
The IAEA chief's last visit to the country took place in March, when Grossi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Russian resort of Sochi.
"I had an important conversation with President Putin and expressed my views on the situation at the plant and on additional measures," Grossi said at the time.
The IAEA chief added that he also discussed "other aspects of nuclear disarmament" with the Kremlin leader.
The IAEA remains concerned about the safety of the largest nuclear power plant on the continent due to the attacks it has been subjected to since the start of the war.
