Zelensky arrived at Figo Maduro military airfield at around 2:50 pm and 18 minutes later he left the official plane that transported him from Brussels, Belgium, to the Portuguese capital to be received by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, who were the first to greet the Ukrainian leader.
He talked with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa until the airfield facilities to then watch the reception with military honors, where several branches of the navy paraded while the air force band could be heard.
After the military march, the Ukrainian anthem was heard, followed by the national anthem "A Portuguesa", listened to by the Ukrainian President next to the two main figures of the Portuguese State.
The arrival of the Ukrainian leader was marked by the large security apparatus around the airfield. At the moment of the arrival of the plane carrying Zelensky, the engines of two military helicopters were turned on and were only turned off when the Ukrainian and Portuguese delegations left, accompanying the cars on their way out to São Bento.
At various points, the presence of several armed military personnel in strategic positions of high visibility throughout the ceremony area was also visible.
The Portuguese armed forces saluted at 3:27 pm, minutes before the departure of the entire delegation present at the ceremony in Figo Maduro to São Bento, the Prime Minister's official residence.
With the main figures of this early afternoon leaving the airfield, the Portuguese national anthem was heard again, this time sung by the military.
The delegations proceeded to São Bento, where a meeting with the Portuguese Prime Minister is scheduled. A bilateral cooperation agreement will be signed for ten years.
On Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, said that this bilateral agreement covers all areas of cooperation between the two countries in the last two years: "humanitarian, financial, military and political assistance".
