In statements to the Lusa agency, the president of the Campo Maior Parents and Guardians Association (APEECM), José Gama, considers the request for an investigation process made by the municipality to the Campo Maior School Group to be positive, but warns that this process will not prevent other episodes of violence in the future.

"We always demand more because this investigation will not prevent our children from continuing to be victims of aggression at school at all times," he said.

The president of APEECM also denounced that, in addition to episodes of violence with students, there are also cases of threats and aggression against teachers in the secondary school of that Alentejo town.

José Gama recalled that, on Monday, parents and guardians held a demonstration against violence in front of the Campo Maior Secondary School, but on Tuesday, cases of violence "were again verified" in that educational establishment.

"This is the reality of our children, it is what they live there constantly, this has already taken on quite large proportions. The management (group) could do much more than what it is doing," he criticized.

In a note published on the Campo Maior municipality's Facebook page, it is stated that the local authority requested the director of the school group to open an investigation process into these episodes of violence.

The local authority also wants to know why a student who was suspended went to the educational establishment last Friday.

The same note explains that the municipality, in order to "seek answers and solutions", has already held meetings with several entities, including the ministries of Education, Social Security and Internal Administration.

According to the Campo Maior City Council, these efforts "resulted in a set of preventive and other corrective measures", highlighting that of a student, a minor and the perpetrator of the attacks, who was admitted to an educational center.

The reinforcement of video surveillance circuits inside both educational establishments (secondary school and school center), the placement of two private security guards, the intensification of communication and coordination with the GNR, were other measures taken.

The municipality also indicates that, in addition to having reinforced the presence of the GNR's Escola Segura military in the municipality's schools, there is also a reinforcement in the team of operational assistants.

Finally, it states that a proposal is being prepared to amend the Student Statute and School Ethics (Law no. 51/2012, of September 5), with regard to corrective disciplinary measures and disciplinary sanctions, as well as the attributions that are the responsibility of the School's management, which will be sent to the Assembly of the Republic.

Lusa tried unsuccessfully to contact the director of the Campo Maior School Group several times.
